ANAHEIM -- Angels superstar Mike Trout didn’t repeat as the American League MVP, but he earned yet another honor on Wednesday, getting named to the 2020 All-MLB First Team for the second straight season.

Trout, the AL MVP in 2014, ’16 and ’19, joined Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts and Nationals left fielder Juan Soto as the three outfielders on the First Team. Trout was the lone repeat First Team outfielder, as last year he was joined by the Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger and the Brewers’ Christian Yelich.

All-time All-MLB winners

The All-MLB Team was created in 2019 and consists of a First and Second Team each with one catcher, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, shortstop and designated hitter, plus three outfielders, five starting pitchers and two relievers.

The selection process, featuring a star-studded group of nominees, started in early November, with 50% of the vote coming from fans and 50% coming from a panel of experts. Fans were able to vote once every 24 hours until 2 p.m. on Nov. 13.

Trout, 29, batted .281/.390/.603 with 17 homers, nine doubles, two triples, 46 RBIs and 41 runs scored in 53 games. He reached a major milestone this season, hitting his 300th career home run, which also moved him ahead of Tim Salmon as the Angels' all-time home run leader.

The eight-time All-Star finished fifth in the balloting for AL MVP and won a Silver Slugger Award for the eighth time in his career. He has finished in the Top 5 in balloting for the AL MVP Award in each of the last nine seasons, which is a Major League record. His nine Top 5 finishes in MVP balloting is tied for third all time behind only Barry Bonds (11) and Albert Pujols (10).
