Bourn likely out 4 weeks; O's bring back Janish
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Michael Bourn, whom the Orioles signed to a Minor League contract on Monday, broke his right ring finger catching a football in a workout Friday.
Bourn, who was added in an attempt to improve Baltimore's outfield defense, is expected to be out four weeks, manager Buck Showalter said.
Showalter refused to rule Bourn out for Opening Day.
"If we had to push the envelope, we could," Showalter said.
The Orioles signed infielder Paul Janish to a Minor League contract on Saturday. It's the third straight year Janish has signed a Minors contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

"Paul's a very good defender," Showalter said. "He's a very reliable baseball player. He's one of those guys that's going to be able to do whatever he wants to do in the game one day. He understands who he is and what he brings, and you know you're going to get it from him.
"He's as good a shortstop as you're going to find out there for this role."
J.J. Hardy hasn't played yet due to back spasms, and he isn't expected to until March 10, and while Hardy is out, Manny Machado is playing shortstop until he leaves to play for the Dominican Republic on March 5.
On Feb. 7, the Orioles added infielders Robert Andino and Johnny Giavotella, and on Feb. 13, they brought in another infielder, Chris Johnson, and now Janish.
"Look at where we are depth-wise compared to where were this time last year, and where we were two weeks ago," Showalter said.
Catcher Welington Castillo, who was scheduled to play on Saturday, is out with neck spasms.
The Orioles maintain interest in left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland, who was designated for assignment last week. They hope to sign him to a Minors contract.
