Mets to honor Seaver with '41' patch
The Mets will wear a “41” tribute patch for Tom Seaver on their home and road uniforms this season, honoring the Hall of Famer who passed away on Aug. 31.
Seaver, the first player to enter the Hall of Fame with a Mets cap on his plaque, had a 2.86 career ERA over the course of 20 seasons, 12 of which were spent with the Mets.
Seaver won a National League Rookie of the Year Award and three NL Cy Young Awards with the Mets, as well as the 1969 World Series.
He had a 2.57 ERA in his time in Flushing, racking up 2,541 strikeouts. He leads the Mets all-time in wins, strikeouts, shutouts, ERA, complete games and starts.
Seaver was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
