SAN DIEGO -- Dodgers infielder Max Muncy would rather let his stats do the talking, but on Monday he finally got around to acknowledging his excitement about being one of five finalists vying for a berth on the National League All-Star team through the 2018 Camping World MLB Final Vote.
• VOTE Muncy: 2018 Camping World MLB Final Vote
"It would be something very special," said Muncy, who ranked third in Wednesday's final update, with voting set to close at 1 p.m. PT. "It's one of the greatest honors you can get as far as the regular season for baseball. It would just sort of solidify how this season has gone for me."
It's gone amazingly for Muncy, who opened the season at Triple-A, but in 69 games since an April 17 callup has slugged a team-high 21 homers with a 1.029 OPS that would lead the NL if he had enough plate appearances to qualify.

Muncy got the call to the Major Leagues in large part because of an injury to Justin Turner. A year ago, it was Turner who rode a grassroots voting effort by Dodgers fans to a Final Vote All-Star berth.
"He said to embrace it," Muncy said of Turner's advice. "He said it's going to be a little bit of a whirlwind, so just kind of embrace it, embrace the opportunity. It's something that doesn't happen very often."
Muncy was asked for a campaign speech. He's a better slugger than political strategist.
"That's not the kind of personality I am," he said. "Just look at what I've done and the amount of time I've done it, it's a little more impressive than over a whole season."

Muncy said he never considered being in the conversation for the All-Star Game until "you guys [the media] started asking about it. It's something I hadn't even thought about. You started asking me every day and that's when it got into my head."
He also noted the coincidence of talking about his new candidacy in the same clubhouse where he spoke of his callup.
"In this very same spot," he said. "It's kind of cool being here talking about the All-Star Game now.
"I've never been the big personality kind of guy. Just keep going about my business as usual."
