Marlins host beautification project for students
MIAMI -- Led by chief executive officer Derek Jeter and chief operating officer Caroline O’Connor, the Marlins headed to Charles R. Drew K-8 Center in Liberty City on Sunday for the third event of Impact Week.
At Sunday's event, the Marlins hosted a beautification project to inspire students by painting a Jackie Robinson-themed mural with the Marlins “colores” created by local artist William Osorio.
Taking part at the ceremony was former Marlins All-Star catcher Charles Johnson, a member of the 1997 World Series title team. A South Florida resident, Johnson has been joining the Marlins staff at several Impact Week events.
The Miami Marlins Foundation kicked off Impact Week on Friday with a Play Ball event at Poinciana Park Elementary in Liberty City.
On Saturday, the organization visited Feeding South Florida in Broward County to sort food that will assist more than 706,000 families and individuals in South Florida that face food insecurity.
