MIAMI -- The Marlins received a scare in the fourth inning on Friday night when Garrett Cooper was struck by a pitch in their 2-1 victory over the Cubs in a game that lasted 17 innings at Marlins Park.
One of their middle-of-the-order power threats, Cooper was hit by a Kyle Hendricks' slider while leading off the fourth inning. He was replaced in right field by Cameron Maybin, and shortly afterward the club announced Cooper was diagnosed with a right wrist contusion.
"I took the sleeve off, and it was pretty purple," Cooper said. "No fracture. Just day-to-day right now. I can move it around. Just a little swollen."

Until the swelling goes down, the Marlins aren't clear what is next for Cooper.
"Coop, we'll see," manager Don Mattingly said. "We'll have to talk with the doctors and see how many days they feel he will be down. From the standpoint of swelling, you find out later."
Acquired from the Yankees in a Minor League trade last November, Cooper showed his power potential late in Spring Training, and he started in right field in each of the first two games against the Cubs.
Cooper was among five rookies in the lineup on Friday, and he is one of 12 Marlins on the Opening Day roster for the first time.
Cooper had an RBI single in the Marlins' 8-4 loss on Thursday.
