The Miami Marlins claimed right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles and designated infielder Robert Andino for assignment, the team announced Thursday.
Despaigne, 29, appeared in 16 games for Baltimore in 2016. He went 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA in 27 1/3 relief innings.
Despaigne did not make a start for the Orioles this season, but he started 34 games for the San Diego Padres over the previous two campaigns. He has the versatility to pitch in long relief or make spot starts for Miami, if necessary, as the club makes a late attempt for a National League Wild Card spot.
Andino, 32, played 13 games for the Marlins in 2016 and hit .292 with one RBI and two runs scored.
