MIAMI -- Beginning Friday, fans entering Marlins Park will be subjected to enhanced security measures.
The team announced on Wednesday that the changes for fans entering through the West Plaza will begin with Miami’s series opener against the Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
The safety measures are in accordance with standards set by Major League Baseball and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act.
The Marlins are taking proactive measures to address safety and security at the retractable-roof ballpark.
Additional fencing had already been placed around the perimeter of the West Plaza this season. And starting Friday, anyone entering the park will go through new security check points, which will be located along with the eight-foot perimeter fences.
Under the new system, screening will take place along the perimeter points of entry. Access will be restricted four hours before game time.
Two hours before game time, fans may enter through Gates 3, 4 and 5 on the West Plaza. Member Early Access and the Member Express Lane will be accessible two hours before game time at Gate 1.
Fans requiring early entry into the ballpark or needing access to the Metro-PCS story or the Marlins Team Store may utilize Gate 1 or Gate 4.
All gates will be open on non-game days from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. -- similar hours to neighboring public parks.
Similar measures will begin on the East Plaza later this season.
The Marlins are asking their fans to arrive a little earlier beginning on Friday to acclimate to the new security measures.
