TORONTO -- The Mariners officially placed infielder Ketel Marte on the 15-day disabled list with mononucleosis and recalled left-hander David Rollins from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
Marte is hitting .273 with 17 doubles and 19 RBIs in 74 games this season. The 22-year-old has appeared in just two of the past seven games for the Mariners since the All-Star break due to injuries and illness.
"He's got to get some strength back, his weight back on and stuff like that," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He was down about six or seven pounds right away. He wasn't able to eat anything. I know we've given him a couple bags of IV fluids just to keep him going there.
"He was hanging low and trying to get his feet under him."
Rollins has appeared in eight games for the Mariners this season, putting together a 1-0 record to go along with a 4.05 ERA. In Tacoma, Rollins has a 2.05 ERA in 24 appearances.
The 26-year-old southpaw pitched one-third of an inning for the Mariners against the White Sox on Tuesday.
"He just gives us another arm there," Servais said. "We'll see. We may adjust going into the National League games we have coming up."
