Mariners' set vs. A's postponed, to be 2 DHs

The finale of the three-game series between the A’s and Mariners on Thursday in Seattle was postponed by Major League Baseball on Tuesday, with all three games of the series now scheduled to be made up with doubleheaders later this month.

The games were postponed “out of an abundance of caution” by MLB to allow for continued testing of A’s personnel after a positive COVID-19 test on Saturday while the team was in Houston.

Sunday’s game between the A’s and Astros was postponed, and MLB subsequently postponed Oakland’s three games in Seattle from Tuesday to Thursday as well.

The Mariners and A’s will make up two of their games with a Sept. 14 doubleheader in Seattle on what had been an off-day for both teams, with the first game starting at 2:10 p.m. PT. The third game will be made up as a doubleheader in Oakland on Sept. 26 during the final three-game series of the season on Sept. 25-27, with that doubleheader kicking off at 1:10 p.m.

There have been no other positive tests among A’s personnel since the initial positive test, according to MLB, and team personnel who have not been identified as close contacts have been approved to travel back to Oakland on Tuesday after spending the past three days locked down at their Houston hotel.

Having just returned home from a seven-game road trip, the Mariners took Tuesday off and will work out at T-Mobile Park on Wednesday and Thursday before resuming their regular-season schedule Friday at 6:10 p.m. with the start of a four-game set against the Rangers.
