TORONTO -- Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman exited Tuesday night's game after warming up for the eighth inning when a blister flared up on his right middle finger, but he doesn't expect to miss a start.
The 27-year-old had pitched seven innings, allowing just an unearned run against the Red Sox, before coming out to pitch in the eighth. He threw a few warmup pitches, but Blue Jays manager John Gibbons and trainer Nikki Huffman came out of the dugout and removed Stroman before he could open the inning.
Toronto went on to drop the opener of the three-game series, 10-7, in 10 innings.
The outing was Stroman's best of the season. He surrendered just two hits to the potent Red Sox offense and allowed three walks while striking out four. He exited the game in line for his fifth win of the season, but Ryan Tepera gave up the lead in the eighth inning by allowing four runs.
Stroman was on the 10-day disabled list earlier this season with right shoulder fatigue. Although he's dealt with blisters in the past, he's never been on the DL with the injury. He expects that to be the case this time as well, and there appears to be little doubt he will make his next start.
"It's something that I've been dealing with all year, to be honest with you, I just haven't said anything," Stroman said. "I'm a competitor. It's not something I'm going to let deter me from making my next start. I'm going to do everything I can over the next four days I'll be back out there on Sunday, competing."
