Ozuna arrested on domestic violence charges
ATLANTA -- Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested after an alleged domestic violence incident in the Atlanta area on Saturday.
According to Fulton County arrest records, Ozuna’s specific charges were aggravated assault strangulation and battery - family violence. The Braves issued this statement regarding the 30-year-old outfielder:
“We learned of Marcell Ozuna’s arrest earlier this evening and immediately informed the Commissioner’s Office. The Braves fully support Major League Baseball’s policy on domestic violence, which stresses to the fullest that our society cannot and will not tolerate domestic violence in any form. Until the investigation is completed, we will have no further comment and all inquiries into the matters should be referred to the Office of the Commissioner.”
MLB and the MLBPA have had a joint policy against domestic violence since 2015.
The Braves are currently playing the Mets in New York. But Ozuna returned to Atlanta after fracturing two fingers while sliding toward third base in Boston on Tuesday night.
Ozuna is currently on a five-year contract with the Braves.
