The Yankees placed rookie right-hander Luis Gil on the injured list with a lower back strain on Wednesday, a day after he exited his start against the Guardians in the fourth inning. Right-hander Will Warren was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.

After allowing a home run and walk to start the fourth inning on Tuesday, Gil gestured toward the dugout then exited the game with lower back tightness.

"A little worried, because you come out of the game because you're feeling something that's not right," Gil said through an interpreter after the game. "But at the same time, you've just got to take it day by day."

Gil permitted three runs on three hits and six walks in three-plus innings in the Yankees' 9-5 loss in 12 innings to the Guardians.
