Pillar exits after catch with SC joint injury

BOSTON -- Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar was forced to leave Saturday afternoon's 6-2, extra-inning loss to the Red Sox with a right sternoclavicular (SC) joint injury. Per Toronto, he will undergo imaging and further evaluation.
There was no post-game update available. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said simply, "He's at the hospital right now, getting checked out."
Pillar made a diving catch to rob Brock Holt of an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. His head-first grab started an inning-ending double play, but Pillar was seen grimacing in pain and holding his neck after returning to the dugout.
The 29-year-old Pillar did not return to the field for the bottom of the fourth. He was replaced by Dwight Smith Jr., who entered the game in right field while Randal Grichuk moved over to center.
Pillar has appeared in all but one of Toronto's 94 games this season. He was coming off a four-hit, four-RBI performance on Friday night that matched career highs in both categories. The California native reached base on a fielder's choice during his lone plate appearance on Saturday afternoon.
