Marte 'doing OK' after leaving with cramp

The D-backs dropped Wednesday night’s game with the Rockies at Coors Field, 8-0, but the bigger concern is whether they lost their best player in the process.
Arizona center fielder Ketel Marte left the game after trying to beat out a grounder to third base in the sixth inning and pulled up a bit before hitting the first-base bag and grabbing the back of his right leg in the hamstring area. He had to be helped off the field.
“He’s doing OK,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. “He felt his leg cramping up as he was running down the line. He was trying to put on the brakes and protect it the best that he could. We’re not exactly sure the extent of what is happening there right now. He’s going to continue to be evaluated for the rest of the night and through the night and on into tomorrow. I’ll have more of an update or a better feeling as to what the official diagnosis is in the coming day or so."
If Marte is out for any period of time it would be a huge blow to the team. Marte came into the game leading the National League in batting average (.522), hits (12) and doubles (4).

The D-backs have already had more than their fair share of injuries this season.
Outfielder Kole Calhoun and right-hander Zac Gallen both started the year on the injured list and shortstop Nick Ahmed joined them before even getting into a game.
“The hits keep coming,” Lovullo said. “But we budgeted for this and we’ve talked about these things. Good baseball teams have the depth to have a group that can fill in and hold down the fort and also can allow some guys to emerge. It’s about adaptability. It’s about being mentally [ready] and being prepared. And I think everybody that is getting the opportunity to step into new roles, we’re upgrading our roles for certain guys in certain situations, I’m excited by that, I’m excited by the chance that we’re getting, and when we get those players [back] we’re going to be that much better.”
