D-backs activate Ketel Marte from injured list
The D-backs activated Ketel Marte off the injured list ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Rangers at Chase Field. Marte then started at second base and went 1-for-4 with a single from the No. 2 hole in a 7-0 win.
Marte had been on the IL since Sept. 9 with left wrist inflammation. He took the place of infielder Josh Rojas, who was placed on the 10-day IL with lower back inflammation.
D-backs manager Torey Lovullo plans to have Marte back in the lineup Wednesday. After that, the team will evaluate how he is feeling physically and whether he will play any in center field.
Rookie Daulton Varsho has gotten most of the playing time in center this month as the team tries to give him experience at a position other than just catcher.
“Super excited first of all that he busted his butt to make today happen,” Lovullo said of Marte. “You know I think he took the challenge personally, that he wanted to get back out and help us win baseball games. So it speaks volumes about his character. Obviously, we know we are in the standings, but it didn't bother him, he wanted to show his teammates that he wanted to come and fight with them.”
