Jarred Kelenic looks to be back in business.
Kelenic had been in a bit of a funk since his demotion back to Triple-A Tacoma on June 7, seeing his average drop from .370, where it stood when he left for Seattle, down to .263 after Tuesday’s game in Las Vegas. Things seem to be turning around, however, as Kelenic opened the Rainiers’ series against Albuquerque with a two-homer game on Thursday night, a performance he followed up by going 4-for-6 with a double and a triple on Friday, driving in three runs in Tacoma’s 10-6 victory over the Isotopes.
Kelenic, MLB’s No. 4 overall prospect, joined the Mariners on May 13, but struggled with the transition, posting a .096 average with two home runs in 23 games. At the time of his demotion, he was mired in a 0-for-39 slump. Despite the growing pains, Kelenic’s last two games have been a promising sign for the Mariners and their top prospect.
The 4-for-6 night lifted the 21-year-old’s average back up over .300, with his line now sitting at .306/.365/.624 with four doubles, a triple and seven home runs on the Triple-A season.
