Rangers prospect has HRs in 8 straight games

When the Rangers selected Justin Foscue with the 14th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, Rangers scouting director Kip Fagg said the team felt the infielder’s bat had a chance to be “special.” Foscue, the team's No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, is making good on that projection so far.

The 22-year-old homered in his eighth straight game Sunday for the Hickory Crawdads, socking a three-run blast in the top of the eighth inning against the Asheville Tourists. (The teams were completing a suspended game that started Friday.)

Eight straight games with a home run is the Major League record shared by Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly and Dale Long.

Foscue began his streak on July 9 in his final game for the Rookie-level ACL Rangers on a rehab assignment. He returned to High-A Hickory and has continued to mash, going yard in each of his first seven games for the Crawdads.

Foscue began this season playing for High-A Hickory, but he suffered a left rib contusion that knocked him out for roughly six weeks. After appearing in three games for the ACL Rangers, Texas returned him to High-A.

Before the injury, Foscue was hitting .176 with two homers, six RBIs and a .678 OPS in 13 games. He entered Friday’s contest having hit .472 with eight homers, 17 RBIs and a 1.794 OPS in nine games since returning to action, and he padded those numbers Sunday when Hickory resumed its suspended game against Asheville.
