Urías placed on administrative leave
Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías has been placed on administrative leave as part of a joint agreement between MLB and the MLB Players Association while the league continues its investigation into his arrest for felony domestic violence charges last Sunday.
Urías, who will receive pay and service time during the leave, will no longer make his scheduled start against the Marlins on Thursday. Urías has remained away from the team since his arrest and, according to ESPN.com, has a court date set for the final week of the regular season. Placement on administrative leave is not a pronouncement of guilt.
This marks the second time that Urías has been arrested on domestic violence charges. In 2019, Urías was arrested after getting into an argument with his wife in a parking lot. His wife later said that she fell on her own.
Despite not being charged, Urías, 27, was still suspended 20 games without pay by Major League Baseball that season for violating the league’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. No player has been suspended twice under that policy since it was instituted by MLB in 2015.
The Dodgers announced on Wednesday that Ryan Pepiot will start in place of Urías for Thursday’s series finale in Miami.
