Buzzing bug might be all that can stop Soto at the plate

Juan Soto was swinging away during his second-inning at-bat at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. But not at a baseball.

Soto’s second plate appearance against Rays pitcher Shane Baz was interrupted when what appeared to be a bee flew in front of the Yankees All-Star outfielder.

There was no time to call for time. Instead, Soto quickly shifted his concentration from Baz to the buzz and swatted at the insect with his left hand. He stepped out of the batter’s box as Baz delivered a ball and then took another big left-handed swipe at the nuisance.

Soto collected himself before ultimately grounding into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. That really had to sting.
