Abreu, Machado named Players of the Week
White Sox first baseman José Abreu and Padres third baseman Manny Machado were named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet on Monday.
Abreu tied a Major League record against the Cubs over the weekend, homering in four straight at-bats. Overall, he recorded a .533 average with seven home runs, 15 RBIs and a 1.896 OPS in seven games last week, helping the White Sox go 6-1. This is the fifth time that Abreu has been named the American League Player of the Week.

Machado's big week included a walk-off grand slam against the Rangers on Wednesday, the third game in the Padres’ record-setting streak of four straight contests with a grand slam. Then on Sunday, Machado crushed a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel San Diego to a sweep over the Astros.
