Soler out at least six weeks with fractured foot

KANSAS CITY -- A CT scan on Saturday morning on Royals outfielder Jorge Soler's left foot confirmed a fracture of the first metatarsal bone, and club officials said he would miss a minimum of six weeks.
Soler headed to the disabled list on Sunday morning, as one of a series of moves by the club.
Infielder Adalberto Mondesi and outfielder Rosell Herrera were recalled from Triple-A Omaha, while the contract of right-hander Wily Peralta was selected from Omaha. Right-hander Scott Barlow and infielder Ramón Torres were optioned to Triple-A and the club transferred lefty Eric Skoglund to the 60-day DL.
Royals manager Ned Yost said another CT scan will be taken on Soler's foot in about a week to determine if any separation in the fracture occurs that would require surgery.
The injury occurred in the sixth inning in Friday night's 7-3 loss to the Astros, when Soler crumpled to the ground after driving a ball sharply toward third base. He took just a few steps out of the box before dropping to the dirt in pain.

The first metatarsal bone is located near the big toe, farther back towards the heel. It is the shortest yet thickest and strongest of the five metatarsals.
Soler sustained an injury in the same area a week ago against the A's after fouling a ball into his foot, diagnosed then as a bone bruise. The club doesn't see any connection at this point, however.
Soler told club officials he did not want to speak to reporters on Saturday. Yost said Soler was understandably distraught with the injury when he returned to the dugout on Friday night.
"Helmet went flying," Yost said, "and there were lots of words in numerous languages."
Soler will be missed in the Royals' lineup, as he was hitting .268/.358/.473 with nine homers and 28 RBIs entering Friday's game, where he went 0-for-3.
