BALTIMORE -- Neil Walker (Walkie) and Luke Voit (Louis) hit 10th-inning home runs off Cody Carroll (CC) as the Yankees defeated the Orioles, 7-5, on Friday night at Oriole Park. Walker hit his eighth home run of the year, and Voit, who earlier hit a two-run homer against Alex Cobb, hit another after Gleyber Torres (GT) walked. It was Voit's third homer of the season. These were his first two with the Yankees.
Chad Green (Greeny) pitched a perfect ninth for the win. Carroll (0-2), who was acquired from the Yankees organization in the July 24 trade for Zach Britton (Anglada), was the Orioles' sixth pitcher of the game.

"We had a lot of young pitchers out there today who showed themselves pretty well," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "A couple of pitches. I think a split to [Walker], but it's part of the process."
Britton pitched the 10th, allowing a solo home run to Chris Davis (Crush) with two outs before securing his fifth save but first with the Yankees, as Players' Weekend got underway across the Major Leagues.

Jonathan Villar (Villi) was the star for the Orioles with a two-run home run in the seventh to give them a 4-2 lead. In the fifth inning, Villar made a sliding, circus catch to rob the Yankees' Ronald Torreyes of a hit to begin the frame. He ran from the infield to short right, slid and caught the ball. He juggled it for a moment but held on, doing a tumble.
"He had a great game," Showalter said of Villar. "There wasn't much else you could ask a guy to do. He played really well on both sides of the ball. Good to see."

Villar was acquired from the Brewers in the July 31 trade that sent Jonathan Schoop (Mamba) to Milwaukee.
"I caught the ball and saved a runner for my team, and the homer got us [ahead]," Villar said. "We lost ... that's a bad moment right now. That's all right. Next year, we'll come in and be ready. I see that the guys are hungry to play hard."
The Yankees tied it at 4 in the eighth on a two-run single by Torres. Davis had a two-run single in the first off CC Sabathia (Dub) to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.

Cobb had his sixth straight quality start, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings. In his previous start on Saturday, Cobb had his first complete game since Aug. 31, 2013, in a win over the Indians.
He continues to lower his ERA after a rough start. It's now down to a season-low 5.00.
"Just having an opportunity to be out there every fifth day and working through some really poor mechanics that I had early on," Cobb said. "Feel like it is just starting to come around where I feel more comfortable out there."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Orioles held a 4-2 lead going into the eighth, but then Mike Wright Jr. (Bird) gave up a leadoff walk to Giancarlo Stanton, and by the end of the inning, the game was tied at 4.
"I thought that really hurt," Showalter said. "And I think they had [three] broken-bat singles in that inning, too. I think we broke five bats that inning. It's one of those things you make good pitches and sometimes you don't get rewarded for them."

SOUND SMART
Cobb, who had a 13.11 ERA after three starts with the Orioles, has a record of 4-15. But in his last two starts, he has allowed four runs on eight hits in 15 innings.
"He's been pitching well for a while, maybe not the results," Showalter said. "To think of where he was and has a chance to end up, I'm real proud of him. It's a real example of his mettle."
HE SAID IT
"They've got four or five closers, guys with a lot of experience. They're lucky to have Zach. He's going to be quite a contributor before the whole thing is over." -- Showalter, on Britton facing the Orioles for the first time
