LOS ANGELES -- Joe Maddon will meet with Joe Torre, Major League Baseball's chief baseball operator, to discuss the Cubs manager's argument in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series presented by Camping World on Saturday, which resulted in his ejection.
Dress for NLCS: Get Cubs postseason gear
Maddon was upset after a call was overturned and Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was found in violation of Rule 7.13, which mandates catchers provide some sort of sliding lane for baserunners at home plate. The Dodgers scored a run on the play and won, 5-2, in the series opener.

"The only thing I'll say about [Saturday] is that the more I watch it, it was a tremendous baseball play," Maddon said of left fielder Kyle Schwarber's throw home to Contreras. "I could not be happier with the technique, and you could also argue about bad baserunning on their side. They get rewarded for a wide turn. We don't get rewarded for perfect footwork in left field and a great catch and tag at home plate."
Maddon and Torre exchanged text messages, and the two will meet face to face at some point.
"I really enjoy my conversations with him," Maddon said of Torre. "He's so calm in the moment and gets both sides."
Maddon pointed at all of the umpires on the field during his argument but wanted to make it clear he wasn't upset with them. Maddon doesn't like the rule.
"I told [crew chief Mike Winters], 'You know this has nothing to do with you guys,' and when Bill Welke came up, I said, 'It has nothing to do with you,'" Maddon said. "I was not arguing with the umpires. I might have looked animated, but I wasn't saying anything awful. I was speaking loudly, that's all. 'You all know I'm right, you all know I'm right.'"
