Davis named FOX Sports' lead MLB play-by-play announcer
Joe Davis has already succeeded one legend in his broadcasting career.
On Friday, FOX Sports announced Davis will be taking over for another, tabbing the 34-year-old as its lead play-by-play announcer for its MLB coverage. He succeeds longtime FOX baseball and football announcer Joe Buck, who has moved to ESPN after calling the World Series at FOX for the last 24 years.
Davis will join Hall of Famer John Smoltz in the network’s lead baseball booth. Along with reporters Tom Verducci and Ken Rosenthal, the duo will present FOX Sports’ coverage of the 2022 All-Star Game, the Field of Dreams Game and the postseason, including the World Series.
“If you had asked me when I was 10 what I wanted to do when I grew up, I would’ve told you ‘Call the World Series,’” Davis said in a statement. “So when I say this is a dream-come-true, I really mean it.”
Davis joined FOX Sports in 2014 as a play-by-play announcer for the network’s MLB, college football and college basketball coverage. He has been a part of FOX Sports’ Division Series coverage since 2017 and called a Championship Series game alongside Smoltz during the '19 and '20 postseasons.
Davis was hired by the Los Angeles Dodgers in November 2015 to call road games for the team-owned SportsNet L.A., beginning with the '16 season. He then assumed the role full-time in '17, succeeding the legendary Vin Scully.
Davis will continue his role for local Dodgers telecasts on SportsNet L.A. His first appearance in his new role is set for May 28, on FOX.
“Having worked with Joe before, finding our chemistry in the booth is already well underway and I’m looking forward to our partnership over the next several years,” Smoltz said in a statement. “I had the opportunity to work with the very best at FOX Sports in Joe Buck, and I feel fortunate to get to continue with another exceptionally talented ‘Joe’ in Joe Davis.”
