Jeff Kent's kid crushes slam for Texas A&M in Super Regional clincher

If you were in College Station, Texas, on Sunday night, you might have thought Superman was in the vicinity.

You’d have been wrong, but not all that far off.

It wasn’t Clark Kent who caused more than 6,000 people to erupt with euphoric cheering there -- it was Kaeden Kent (no relation), who launched a massive grand slam over the right-field wall to expand Texas A&M’s lead over Oregon in the seventh inning of their NCAA Super Regional game at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

It was part of a nine-run outburst that took the Aggies from four runs down when the frame began, to five runs up. Eventually, Texas A&M was celebrating a trip to the College World Series after a 15-8 win over the Ducks.

While he may not be related to the Man of Steel, Kaeden is related to a former National League MVP and five-time All-Star who belted 377 career home runs.

Jeff Kent is Kaeden’s Jor-El. Jeff had a 17-year MLB career spent primarily with the Mets, Giants, Astros and Dodgers from 1992-2008, and is surely proud of his son, who also happens to play his former position of second base.

You don’t have to be Superman to do super things on a baseball field. The Kents can tell you a little something about that.
