Werth extends on-base streak to 38 games

WASHINGTON -- Jayson Werth extended his on-base streak to 38 games with a first-inning walk in the Nationals' 1-0 win over the Giants on Sunday.
The outfielder has now walked or gotten a hit in every game since June 20, raising his on-base percentage from .317 to .342 during that time.
The 38-game streak is the longest of Werth's career and the longest in the Majors this season. The Nationals' record is 43, set by Ryan Zimmerman in 2009.
Werth got off to a slow start this season but turned things around in late May by recommitting to working counts and getting on base.
"I finally feel like myself," Werth said Friday. "I've always been an OBP guy. I kind of came into the season trying to be more aggressive. Everybody's always like, 'Why don't you be more aggressive, why don't you swing earlier in the count?' So I tried it, and I shouldn't have. So it just took me some time to get back to being me."
