Bruce exits early, but expected to play Saturday
NEW YORK -- Outfielder Jay Bruce exited the Mets' 7-4 loss to to the Cubs on Friday night at Citi Field after the fourth inning due to lower back discomfort, but he is set to play in Saturday night's game against Chicago, according to manager Mickey Callaway.
Bruce popped out to lead off the bottom of the fourth, but he was replaced in the lineup by José Bautista in the top of the fifth. Bruce is batting .228 with 15 RBIs after going 0-for-2 on Friday night.
After experiencing back spasms, Bruce left the game to receive treatment. He does not anticipate it being anything serious and stated that he knows he needs to be more proactive with stretching, especially while playing first base, a position he may be seeing more time at this season.
