Lamb exits with left shoulder contusion

CHICAGO -- Jake Lamb tried to sound optimistic, but the D-backs third baseman could not hide his disappointment after suffering a left shoulder contusion in Thursday afternoon's 7-6 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Lamb injured his shoulder while diving for Addison Russell's grounder in the second inning. He made the play and stayed in the game, finishing the inning with a nice play to retire David Bote. Ketel Marte, though, pinch-hit for Lamb in the third.
Lamb suffered a left shoulder contusion on April 2 this year while making an outstanding diving catch against the Dodgers. The injury kept him out until May 18.
"Now it feels exactly the same to how it did before," Lamb said after the game.
Lamb flew with the team to San Diego, and he will be checked on Friday morning. If he still has significant discomfort, he will likely be sent back to Phoenix for an MRI and to meet with team doctors.
"Hopefully, I feel great tomorrow," Lamb said. "But it doesn't feel too great right now."
