deGrom scratched due to rain, will start Monday

NEW YORK -- As the 1:10 p.m. ET start time approached, the rain continued to fall at Citi Field, forcing the Mets into a last-minute decision to pull ace Jacob deGrom from his scheduled start before the game Sunday.
Mets manager Mickey Callaway announced after Sunday's 6-4 win over the Phillies that deGrom would be scheduled to start Monday in the series opener against Miami. Although there is rain in the forecast, the Mets believe deGrom will be able to get his start in.
"From what we see at this point -- which I mean, it's the weather, it's hard to predict -- it's supposed to clear up in the evening," Callaway said. "So, we thought when we made that decision, we were thinking that we have a good chance to play tomorrow night."
The plan was originally for deGrom to pitch through the "light rain" that was scheduled in the forecast Sunday, but as time passed and the game was delayed 27 minutes, it was clear the weather was not letting up and the staff did not want to risk deGrom wasting a start.
"I think given all of the information we had going into the game, we probably would have made this decision either way," Callaway said, when asked if the National League Cy Young Award race had anything to do with the decision. "We got burned one time this year on it with [Jason] Vargas and we just didn't want to get in that situation again where we put ourselves in a bind."
Corey Oswalt made the spot start in deGrom's place and threw three innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits while striking out four.
