PHOENIX -- Those watching the D-backs play will often see players getting their uniforms dirty, whether it’s Corbin Carroll sliding into second base or Ketel Marte making a diving play in the infield.
What they won’t see, however, is clubhouse manager Roger Riley and his crew working behind the scenes to make sure the uniforms and clubhouse are ready for the next day.
“They keep things running behind the scenes,” D-backs first baseman Christian Walker said. “They make our jobs and our lives a whole lot easier.”
“Inside Stitch,” an MLB Network and MLB.TV series that takes a fun look at the history of baseball uniforms, recently went behind the scenes with Riley, who is in his 23rd season as the D-backs’ Home Clubhouse Manager and has the unique distinction of giving current MLB consultant Theo Epstein his first job in baseball.
In the episode, Riley identifies the players he had an extra uniform ready for and which current D-backs reliever comes to him for a daily crossword puzzle. For those stories and other insight from Riley and his staff about all that goes into getting a team prepared to play, watch the episode above.
