LOS ANGELES -- It was a busy Wednesday for recovering Dodgers pitchers, as Kenta Maeda was activated off the disabled list, Clayton Kershaw threw a bullpen session and Rich Hill was cleared for a Minor League rehab start.
Maeda was activated off the disabled list to start Wednesday night's game against Texas. He had been out since straining his right hip on May 29. Daniel Corcino, who picked up a three-inning save Tuesday night, was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Maeda.
Kershaw, who threw a mini-session off the mound for the first time on Tuesday with no pain in his strained lower back, added more pitches on Wednesday, with president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and manager Dave Roberts watching.
After the session, as they did on Tuesday, Kershaw worked on mechanics with pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, appearing to focus on his leg lift and posture. Kershaw has made one start since May 1, sidelined first by biceps tendinitis, now the back for the third consecutive season.
Roberts said Hill, who has missed 40 games with chronic blister issues, will start for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga on Friday night. Roberts said if Hill's finger holds up for four or five innings, he will rejoin the club and likely start next week in Chicago.
Also working in the bullpen on Wednesday afternoon was Alex Wood, who has only one win this year and has pitched through hamstring and adductor discomfort. He threw a bullpen session with Friedman watching, and Roberts said he will be pushed back a day and start on Saturday, with Ross Stripling starting on Friday on regular rest.
"There are things he's been dealing with the last month, but over the course of the last four or five days, he's trending the right way and he's close to 100 percent," said Roberts. "Not concerned. Just mechanically, making sure he's consistent with his delivery and executing pitches like he can."
Roberts said Caleb Ferguson, who pitched four innings in his Tuesday night start, is likely to make his third start on Sunday.
"Caleb is doing some good things," said Roberts. "He's got a good opportunity to make his next start."
Walker Buehler, who was placed on the disabled list on Tuesday with a rib microfracture, played catch to keep his arm in shape. He is likely to miss two weeks.
