BALTIMORE -- As expected, third baseman Tim Beckham underwent core muscular surgery on Thursday morning in Philadelphia. The Orioles infielder, who was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday, is expected to be out at least six weeks.
The O's do have some closer reinforcements, though, as Mark Trumbo (right quad) is nearing a return that could come as early as Tuesday in Anaheim. Jonathan Schoop (right oblique) will head to extended spring camp after Baltimore's homestand wraps this weekend, and he could play in games there as early as Wednesday.
Orioles closer Zach Britton (right Achilles) continues to progress, throwing a bullpen session at Camden Yards on Thursday afternoon. There's no timetable yet on him going out on a rehab assignment.
