Right-hander Griffin Canning and the Mets have reached agreement on a one-year, $4.25 million contract, a source told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. The club has not confirmed the deal, which includes $1 million in potential bonuses and is pending a physical.
Canning came to the Braves in an Oct. 31 trade with the Angels for Jorge Soler, but the 28-year-old, who made $2.6 million in 2024, was not part of Atlanta’s future plans and was non-tendered.
Canning is coming off a down year, posting a 5.19 ERA -- his 99 earned runs allowed led the American League -- with 130 strikeouts, 66 walks and 31 homers allowed in 171 2/3 innings. But he did make all of his scheduled starts without missing any time with injuries and was nominated for the Gold Glove Award again after winning it in 2020.
