Cole, Flaherty named Pitchers of the Month

Major League Baseball on Monday announced the Pitchers of the Month for September, with the honor going to a pair of familiar faces in Gerrit Cole of the Astros and Jack Flaherty of the Cardinals.

This marks the third time this season Cole has received the American League Pitcher of the Month Award. The right-hander recorded a 1.07 ERA over six starts in September for the AL West champions, striking out at least 10 batters in each outing. He set a Major League record Sunday, collecting double-digit K's in his ninth consecutive start.

As for Flaherty, he earns the National League Pitcher of the Month Award for the second straight month. The righty notched a 0.82 ERA with 53 strikeouts over 44 innings spanning six September starts, putting the finishing touches on a brilliant second half as he helped the Cardinals clinch the NL Central title.
