CHICAGO -- The Astros continued to break out offensively Friday night against the White Sox.
After erupting for 16 runs in consecutive wins over the Mariners on Wednesday and Thursday, the Astros had White Sox starter James Shields on the ropes in the second inning Friday before breaking through with a five-run fourth inning. Houston went on to win, 10-0.
The Astros sent eight to the plate in the frame and six of them reached, including RBI singles by Alex Bregman and Brian McCann. George Springer broke things open when he shot a two-run double to left field to make it 4-0 and wound up scoring on the play when the ensuing throw to the plate hit off Marwin Gonzalez and rolled into foul territory.
The five-run inning was the second-largest by the Astros this year, trailing only the six-run seventh inning they had Wednesday in Seattle.
