A high school prom that may never be topped

Really in the mood to watch a baseball game, but also have to go to your high school prom on the same night? The easy solution: hold your prom at the ballpark!
Marblehead (MA) High School just topped every other prom venue out there by holding their prom at Fenway Park ... while the Red Sox were playing. It seems to be the first prom to be held at Fenway during a game, so not only do these teenagers get to celebrate the end of their school year looking great in gowns and suits, they also get to watch the Red Sox play baseball as an added bonus.
Because of how their high school journey lined up with the COVID-19 pandemic, this is an extra special prom for the Marblehead senior class as it was actually the first high school dance they've been able to hold.
“This is actually our first class dance. We lost out on our sophomore semi-formal and our junior prom so we knew we wanted to do something big," said class president Grace MacLean. "We knew we wanted to go to Boston. And a woman who works in our main office, her husband [works for the Red Sox]. We knew they had this brand new events space and we just figured we’d ask. It all came together and we couldn’t be happier."
The unique prom setting was possible thanks to major upgrades to that area of Fenway Park ahead of the 2022 season, which added the 8,800-square-foot open-air Truly Terrace that Marblehead High used to their advantage.
It also was a bit of a surprise to the class, per Aidan Thompson, one of the class members.
“When we first heard about Prom, we knew it would be near Fenway. Then they started telling us it would actually be at Fenway and everyone was super excited about it. We’ve been waiting all year.”
While there will probably be other cool events, including proms, in this area of Fenway Park in the future, the Marblehead High class of 2022 can always say they were the first to do it. And everyone was fully aware of the special and once-in-a-lifetime prom locale where they got to party the night away.
Said Francesca D’Orio, “It doesn’t get much better than this. This is like a dream.”
