PHOENIX -- Didn’t bring a glove to the game? No problem at all. Just buy a bucket of popcorn!
D-backs fans were having a great time during the third inning of Tuesday night’s game vs. the Marlins at Chase Field, cheering on their team during a four-run rally. But one of the loudest ovations came when a man got innovative with his salty snack container.
An 0-2 foul ball left the bat of Arizona’s Geraldo Perdomo and flared toward the seats behind the third-base dugout. One fan had a play on it, but he didn’t have a glove handy. So instead, he lifted his bucket of popcorn above his head to try to corral the ball -- and he did so successfully, making quite an impressive catch.
Sure, a bunch of his popcorn went flying, and perhaps he needed to buy more later. But this fan ended up with a great souvenir and a play worthy of the highlight reels. He even made an appearance on the jumbotron once the inning was over to show off the ball, with the replay of the event resulting in more loud cheers from the crowd.
The moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to risk your snack for a chance at defensive glory.
