Gattis sets franchise record for RBIs in June

HOUSTON -- Evan Gattis -- the Astros' bearded, burly and barehanded designated hitter -- may be putting together the most productive June in franchise history.
Gattis recorded his 28th and 29th RBIs in June with a two-run double in the first inning of Wednesday's 7-6 walk-off win over the Blue Jays. The pair of RBIs tied Gattis with Jim Wynn (1967) and Jose Cruz ('84) for the most in franchise history in the month.
No. 30 was a doozy. Gattis smoked a two-out double in the fifth inning, scoring Alex Bregman -- who later drilled the walk-off home run -- to set the Astros' new franchise record for the month of June with 30 RBIs.
"It's been awesome," Gattis said. "That's the idea. To be honest, I hadn't really paid attention to that as much as I have tried to make a good swing at a good pitch. I didn't find out about the record or anything like that until a couple days ago. It helps having guys on [base] all the time. And I'm just glad things have kind of turned around from the way they started."

Gattis has 30 RBIs on 24 hits with five doubles and eight home runs in 93 plate appearances (85 at-bats) in June. The Astros' DH batted .200 in March/April and began to heat up in May, where he decreased his amount of strikeouts and doubled his RBI total before June began.
Houston three games remaining in June, too -- Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the first three games of a four-game set against Tampa Bay.
"What [Gattis is] doing is being one of the most productive guys over the span of a few weeks," Astros manager AJ Hinch said.
