Nationals non-tender Fedde, Voit, Romero

The Nationals could have gaps to fill in their roster this offseason after they non-tendered righty starter Erick Fedde and first baseman/designated hitter Luke Voit.

The club also non-tendered right-hander Tommy Romero, bringing the 40-man roster to 38.

Fedde, 29, was a 2014 first-round Draft pick by Washington. He pitched as a starter and reliever during his tenure, establishing himself in the rotation the past two seasons. In 2022, Fedde went 6-13 with a 5.81 ERA in 27 starts. He is 21-33 with a 5.41 ERA across 454 1/3 career frames.

If Fedde and the Nats do not agree to terms on a new deal, the club will need to address a starter vacancy. Patrick Corbin and Josiah Gray are healthy, while Cade Cavalli and MacKenzie Gore are expected to return from injuries to join the rotation. The Nationals will determine the roles of Paolo Espino and Cory Abbott, and free agent Aníbal Sánchez previously expressed interest in returning.

Voit, 31, was acquired by the Nationals from the Padres in a Trade Deadline blockbuster deal. He slashed .228/.295/.381 with a .676 OPS, nine home runs and 21 RBIs with Washington.

Voit made 26 starts at first base and 27 as the DH. Joey Meneses could start at first base next season, but the Nationals will have to fill the designated hitter role after the team declined its mutual option on Nelson Cruz.

Romero, 25, made one start for the Nats (0-1, 14.73 ERA) in a doubleheader on Oct. 1.
