Broadcaster Nadel returns after taking time to focus on mental health

ARLINGTON -- Rangers Hall of Fame broadcaster Eric Nadel returned to the radio booth for Friday night’s game against the Miami Marlins, the team announced.

It was the first game of the 2023 season that Nadel has called as he took time off to deal with mental health issues. Matt Hicks and Jared Sandler have been the main radio announcers so far this season.

“I am delighted to be back on the air tonight and am eternally grateful to the Rangers’ ownership and management for their patience, understanding and generosity,” Nadel said in a statement. “A huge thank you to my broadcast partners for making it possible for me to take the time I needed. And my heart goes out to all the Rangers fans for their love, support and prayers.”

Nadel joined the Rangers in 1979 and was inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. He became the 15th member of the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame in August 2012, and was the 2014 Ford C. Frick Award winner, an award presented annually for excellence in broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
