Remember this year's weirdest broken bat? It happened again!

CHICAGO -- Sometimes a pitch is so filthy, so perfectly executed on the handle of a hitter's bat, that the bat can't do anything but shatter.
And then there's what happened to the Padres' Eric Hosmer in the second inning of Thursday afternoon's 6-4 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Which is to say: What in the world happened to Hosmer's bat?
Hosmer swung at a 2-1 offering from Cubs right-hander Matt Swarmer, made contact near the barrel as he tried to check his swing -- and then, somehow, the bat snapped at the knob.
Hosmer, with a new bat in tow, worked a walk and had a chuckle about it with Cubs first baseman Patrick Wisdom. He would promptly come around to score on Nomar Mazara's two-run home run one batter later.
Hosmer's "bat trick" was reminiscent of a moment from April 10 involving the Rangers' Corey Seager, who somehow ended up with a go-ahead single against the Blue Jays after his bat splintered the very same way.
