LOS ANGELES -- For decades, the Dodgers have been an integral part of the Los Angeles community. With its constant star power and flash, the team has represented the brilliance and excellence the city is known for.

In their second wave of City Connect uniforms, which will debut on Saturday against the Angels, the Dodgers wanted to pay homage to Los Angeles and various pieces of history that have been attached to the organization since its early days after its move from Brooklyn in 1958.

Every piece of the uniform was intended to carry a significant meaning.

The front wordmark: The typeface is inspired by signage of the LA Memorial Coliseum, which served as the first home of the Dodgers in 1958. The contract and upward trajectory is intended to speak to the city’s pursuit of the beyond.

The hashtag #ITFDB: “It’s Time for Dodger Baseball” are the words said just before every Dodgers home game. It is also paying homage to the legendary Hall of Fame voice of the Dodgers, Vin Scully.

The mark: A mashup of the trademark LA interlocking logo and the swooping “D” of the logo script, it all combines to form the Dodgers’ LAD team code.

The numbers: They are inspired by mid-century typefaces popular when the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn.

The fabric: In perhaps the most unique part of the uniform, it focuses on the “galaxy of stars,” which is rendered in the color palette of Dodger Stadium, hoping to represent the diversity in Los Angeles.

The colors: The Dodgers are known for their Dodger Blue, but the City Connect uniforms go with a different colorway -- Cobalt and Electric Blue -- with a hint of “Chili Red,” which serves as a nod to the red numbers on the Dodgers’ primary uniforms.

Introduced in 2021, the City Connect program offered a way for teams to express creativity in linking a set of alternate uniforms to the urban areas around them. Examples include the Red Sox, who use a blue-and-yellow color scheme in homage to the Boston Marathon finish line, and the Giants, who used theirs to pay tribute to the Golden Gate Bridge.

In 2021, the Dodgers introduced their first City Connect uniforms that paid an homage to the large Latino community in Los Angeles with “Los Dodgers” scripted across the front of the jersey. The Dodgers used those uniforms for a couple of seasons.
