Dodgers retain Puig, 9 other arbitration-eligibles

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers on Friday non-tendered reliever Pat Venditte while tendering contracts to all other unsigned players on the 40-man roster.
That includes left-handed reliever Tony Cingrani, who reportedly agreed to a deal for 2019. The club did not confirm that report.
Among the players tendered contracts were 10 eligible for salary arbitration: Cingrani, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood, Joc Pederson, Kiké Hernández, Chris Taylor, Corey Seager, Pedro Báez, Josh Fields and Yimi García.
Venditte was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room for left-handed reliever Adam McCreery, who was acquired from Atlanta.
Cingrani, eligible for free agency after the 2019 season, will receive a guaranteed salary of $2.65 million, a modest raise from his $2.3 million during an injury-plagued '18. The club must be confident about his health to guarantee the salary, as arbitration-eligible contracts generally are not guaranteed.
The 29-year-old Cingrani, a key contributor after his acquisition during the 2017 season, was a greatly missed non-factor in '18.
He spent 10 days in May on the disabled list, then missed virtually the last four months of the regular season with a left shoulder strain. He was 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings, but made just two appearances after June 6 in an unsuccessful September comeback.
The Dodgers cleaned up most of their potential non-tenders in the last week when they removed Tom Koehler, Erik Goeddel and Zac Rosscup from the 40-man roster.
If a tendered arbitration-eligible player cannot agree with the club on a salary, it will be decided through the arbitration process.
