De Jong among 3 added to Dodgers' 40-man roster

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Chase De Jong and Jacob Rhame and catcher Kyle Farmer on Friday, adding them to the 40-man roster and protecting them from next month's Rule 5 Draft.
The 22-year-old De Jong, the Dodgers' 17th-ranked prospect, was the Texas League Pitcher of the Year after posting league bests with 14 wins and a 1.02 WHIP, and was second with a 2.86 ERA for Double-A Tulsa. Originally a second-round pick of Toronto in 2012, he was acquired for international bonus allocations.
The 23-year-old Rhame, the Dodgers' 19-ranked prospect, was 1-7 with a 3.29 ERA at Triple-A Oklahoma City with seven saves and 70 strikeouts in 63 innings.

The 26-year-old Farmer, the Dodgers' 24th-ranked prospect, was an All-Star with Tulsa this year, hitting .256 with five home runs and 31 RBIs in 74 games. The converted shortstop joins Yasmani Grandal and Austin Barnes as the only catchers on the club's 40-man roster.
Among those left unprotected were right-handed pitcher Chris Anderson, the first-round pick in 2013, right-handed pitcher Ralston Cash, a second-round pick in 2010 and Cuban shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena, a $25 million signing who has been suspended twice for failing to comply with the terms of his contract.
The Dodgers have 40 players on their roster.
