MIAMI -- Marlins No. 5 prospect Dillon Head will undergo season-ending left hip surgery on Friday, the club confirmed.

By undergoing the procedure -- femoral acetabular impingement surgery -- now, Head can have a full offseason and be ready for Spring Training.

The 19-year-old Head, the headliner of the Luis Arraez trade with San Diego on May 4, appeared in three games for Single-A Jupiter before being placed on the Minor League seven-day injured list on May 20. He had previously missed time with an adductor strain.

Head began a rehab assignment with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Marlins on June 4, but he hadn't played since June 5.

Selected 25th overall in last year's MLB Draft by San Diego, Head posted a .243/.317/.396 slash line with five doubles, three triples, two homers, 11 RBIs and five steals in 26 games between the Padres' and Marlins' Minor League affiliates in 2024.
