CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Didi Gregorius entered camp supposedly competing for his job at shortstop.
But unless there is a stunning twist between now and Opening Day on April 8, Gregorius will be there.
Gregorius flashed the glove in an impressive double play in the third inning of Thursday’s Grapefruit League game against the Yankees at BayCare Ballpark. Phillip Evans bounced a hard one-hopper back at Phillies pitcher Zach Eflin, who almost punched the ball with his glove toward second base. Gregorius made a diving stop to his left and flipped the ball with his glove to second baseman Jean Segura, who threw to first to complete the double play.
First baseman Rhys Hoskins immediately doffed his cap to Gregorius.
