DeShields' tattoos pay tribute to Negro Leagues

Delino DeShields has a unique tribute to his baseball heroes.

With the baseball world celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Negro Leagues this year, DeShields posted images of the tattoos covering his right leg, which depict scenes from Negro Leagues history.

"Players like Satchel Paige, 'Cool Papa' Bell, Josh Gibson, and of course Jackie Robinson were players that I idolized from the moment I put on a uniform," DeShields wrote. "They were what superheroes looked like to me."

The Indians outfielder's tattoos include images of those stars -- including the iconic moment of Robinson sliding into home with the Brooklyn Dodgers -- Negro Leagues team logos, a team portrait of the Kansas City Monarchs from the 1924 Negro Leagues World Series and more.

DeShields was one of many honoring Black baseball history on Monday, as athletes, celebrities and even former U.S. Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter tipped their caps to the Negro Leagues.
