When you wear a David Wright jersey and David Wright finds you
They say never meet your heroes?
Someone forgot to tell this to a San Francisco bartender. With the Mets in town for a four-game series against the Giants, the bartender took the opportunity to show her fandom by rocking a David Wright jersey to work. What she didn’t expect is that one of the customers she served would be Wright himself, as shown in a heartwarming video captured by the Mets’ Twitter account.
With some NSFW language, the bartender expressed her extreme surprise and elation at being able to meet her hero before the two embrace and share some pleasantries.
A seven-time All-Star, Wright was drafted by the Mets in 2001 and played all 14 of his MLB seasons with New York. He finished as the franchise’s all-time leader in a plethora of stats including but not limited to hits, runs and RBIs, and he is one of only four players in Mets history to be named a team captain.
Now 40 years old, Wright last played in an MLB game in 2018 because of lingering injuries that led to the end of his career. And though he’s several years removed from stepping on an MLB diamond, he still managed to find a way to add another top moment to a lifetime already stacked with them.
