D-backs-Braves rained out; twin bill today
ATLANTA -- Rain forced Drew Smyly to wait an additional day to rejoin the Braves’ rotation.
Heavy rain forced the Braves to postpone Saturday night’s game against the D-backs approximately an hour before Smyly was scheduled to throw the first pitch. The two teams will now play a traditional doubleheader that will begin at 1:20 p.m. ET on Sunday at Truist Park.
Both ends of the doubleheader will be seven-inning games. The second game will begin approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Bryse Wilson, who was Sunday’s scheduled starter, will take the mound for Game 1 and Smyly will start Game 2.
Smyly was activated from the injured list on Saturday. The lefty hasn’t started since his left forearm started bothering him after his April 11 start against the Phillies.
This postponement shouldn’t adversely affect the Braves’ rotation. Kyle Wright was most recently optioned on April 17. So, he would be eligible to return any time after Monday. He could start Thursday’s series finale against the Cubs. But he could be pushed back to Friday if the Braves choose to give Huascar Ynoa an additional day of rest.
Those who had already purchased tickets for Sunday’s game will be permitted admission at noon. They can remain in their same seats for the second game.
Anyone who purchased a ticket for Saturday’s game will be automatically credited to their Atlanta Braves online account for the value of the ticket(s)/parking. This value can be redeemed for tickets and/or parking at any point during the 2021 regular season. Value will expire on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021.
